| A drawn game, a red card and a poor Mitchels performance were overshadowed by a bizarre incident at the recent Mitchels - Aghaderg game. Late in the first half, young Shannon Cooney slipped the ball past the Aghaderg keeper and into the net. The keeper picked himself up and moved out to the 21 to take his kick-out.
At this point both teams were amazed to see the referee indicating that he should move back in, as he had given a wide!
Now we all know that referees can make mistakes, but everyone there - including supporters and players from both teams, were amazed at the magnitude of this one!
When the final whistle blew, and all knew that it would have been the winning score, it was even more disappointing for Mitchels. They had never settled in the game, and the incident seemed to further disrupt their fluency. Even with that, they might have won, a late Mitchels wide being followed by a pointed free from Aghaderg just before the whistle. Final score Aghaderg 0-10, Mitchels 0-10. |
