|
Mitchels 1-8 Tullylish 1-13
Mitchels played well against top of the table Tullylish and were unlucky not to coe away with any points. Tullylish started brighter, leading by 3 points to 1 after 10 minutes, Mitchels' opening score coming from Kenny Murphy. After Tullylish scored their 4th, Mitchels replied with a super score from Gareth McGeeney.
Mitchels defence then got into their stride, holding Tullylish scoreless for nearly twenty minutes, while at the other end Damian Kearney and Shane Cooney scored great points from play to leave the scores level at 4 all. Tullylish then scored, but their point whas promptly answered when McGeeney was fould going through and Shane Cooney scored from the resulting free. Mitchels had a clear-cut goal chance, when Richie Troope stormed through, but his clever pass to Murphy ended with the ball going just wide. Defender Micheal Dillon then went off with what looked liike a hamstring injury; he was replaced by Neil Murtagh. He joins the ranks of injured players, including Marty Boyle, Shannon Cooney & Stevie Quinn. Mitchels were also without Eamon Pollock for the Tullylish game. Just before half-time Tullylish scored again to leave the narrowest of margins between the sides.
Half-time score Mitchels 0-5, Tullylish 0-6
The second half began with a Tullylish attack, with Joe Price sensibly conceding a 45, which resulted in a wide. Tullylish followed this up with another wide, before Richie Troope used strength and skill to get wihin goal scoring range, and this time he made no mistake. Mitchels led for the first time in the game. The sides then exchanged points, Richie scoring again for the home side, before Tullylish entered a purple patch, scoring four unanswered points (including one free). Troope then got through for another point from play, and Ciaran Conlon added another a minute later. However it was Tullylish who scored the next, leaving the scores at 1-8 to 13 points with just two minutes to go. Knowing that a goal would be needed, Mitchels mounted a number of attacks, but it was Tullylish, on a lone break, who found the net, leaving a flattering final tally of 1-13 for the visitors. Mitchels will be disappointed not to have won the game, especially as they had a clear penalty appeal tuned down in the second half. Tullylish on the other hand were surely relieved to get away with both points. However Mitchels can take heart from an excellent performance.
