Thank you for all your comments about volunteer work around the club. The website message board is intended for information and fun, and I know everyone will be keen to use it in ways which support the club. Where people have particular concerns they should bring these to the attention of the committee, or better still join the committee so they can influence decisions made. Where people wish to use the website to encourage others to support club events, this is very welcome.

Does anyone in the committee have a fixture list for the reserve season ahead as we can really do well this year as long as its run correctly. We could also do with a another pre season game or two after last nights good run out in Silverbridge.

I LOVE READING OUR MSG BOARD FROM TIME TO TIME, WERE A GREAT CLUB FOR PATTING EACH OTHER ON THE BACK, BUT FOR WHAT? WEVE DONE NOTHING FOR A FEW YEARS. SURE, WE ALL TRAIN HARD (WHEN WE BOTHER 2 GO 2 TRAINING) THEN WE GIVE UP 2 EASILY IN GAMES. WEVE GOT 2 MANY TALKERS AND NOT ENOUGH DO'ERS. 2 MANY LADS GO MISSING FOR 2 R 3 SEASONS AND THEN SHOW UP AGAIN AND 2 MAKE MATTERS WORSE WE HAVE THE GUTS OF A 1ST 15 STILL LIVING AROUNG NEWRY WHO DONT PLAY FOR THEIR CLUB ANYMORE AT ALL. ITS ALL DOWN 2 PLAYERS AT THE END OF THE DAY AND WE NEED EVERY MITCHELS PLAYER 2 GET THE FINGER OUT NEXT SEASON, STOP MAKING EXCUSES, BLAMING EVERY1 ELSE, AND WORK R BALLS OFF 2 GET AWAY FROM WERE WEVE BEEN 4 THE LAST FEW YEARS! THATS MY WEE RANT FINISHED! UP THE MITCHELS!

Sounds quite coincidental sean o' neil talking about never wanting to leave the Mitchels and being proud to be a Mitchels man. Lets take this in context when Sean was a Mitchels man they were the best senior team in down, recently though they have become one of the poorest senior football clubs in down, letting some of their best players walk, internal disputes and poor leadership and organisation from the very top. How could you blame a good footballer at the club wanting to further his footballing career. Cathal made great speech on Mitchels being nearly men the fact of the matter is with this current bunch and the current youth coaching setup, most of whom have never played at a senior level (hayes and co), how is the club ever going to produce quality? The fact of the matter is during the course of the eighties and late nineties the club had talented senior panels not in great depts but talented, but due to the lack of structure and having dedicated people at the HELM these panels have self destructed. The Truth PS How did Mc Coy get on the team of the eighties?

CAN I SAY I DONT AGREE WITH EVERYTHING IN THE PREVIOUS MESSAGE.fIRSTLY SEAN ONEIL PLAYED FOR A GREAT TEAM NOT A GREAT CLUB.IF IT WAS A GREAT CLUB THEN WE WOULD NOT BE STRUGGLING SO MUCH NOW.I NEVER HEARD THE SPEECH IN FACT I HAVE NOT BEEN AT THE DINNER DANCE IN THREE YEARS.REGARDING CATHALS INCLUSION IN THE TEAM OF THE 86-96 ERA, WELL I PLAYED AT THE SAME TIME AND ACTUALLY THIS WAS WHEN THE CLUB WAS AT ITS LOWEST IN MY OPINION AND FROM AT LEAST 1990 TO 1998 THE CLUB STRUGGLED AND ACTUALLY I THINK CATHAL AND MARTY DURKAN SHARED THE PLAYER OF THE YEAR BETWEEN THEM A LOT OF THEM YEARS.AS FOR THE TEAM HE WAS WITH AT THE BLACK TIE EVENT THEY NEVER PLAYED THEM YEARS.IN FACT MARTY LYNCH LEFT I THINK IN 1985-86.I PLAYED WITH CATHAL MARTY,MANNY, RAYMIE MATHERS,DESSIE CAMPBELL (JESUS) AND NONE OF THEM PLAYERS WERE THERE.)KIERAN RUDDY CAME AND WENT) THAT IS WHY I WAS DISSAPOINTED THE TEAM OF 86-96 WAS NOT PICKED ON THE BASIS OF THE ACTUAL PLAYERS THAT PLAYED MOST OF THAT DECADE (BECAUSE WE WERENT GOOD ENOUGH IN THEIR EYES) BUT TO THE MERCENARIES WHO CAME AND WENT. CATHAL MCCOY AND THE OTHER PLAYERS WHO ACTUALLY PLAYED THAT DECADE DESERVE THE AWARD BECAUSE THEY WERE THE BEST THAT DECADE NOT THE OTHER PLAYERS.

THERE ARE ABOUT 12 PEOPLE IN THE CLUB GIVING UP ALL THEIR TIME TO HELP YOU.AS FOR GOOD PLAYERS LEAVING,WELL ARE THEY GOOD CLUBMEN? DO THEY LOVE THEIR CLUB? OBVIOUSLY NOT! THEY ARE LIKE YOU A SELFISH INDIVIDUAL WHO THINKS THE CLUB SHOULD REVOLVE AROUND YOU.WHY DONT YOU STOP AND LOOK AT THE WORK PEOPLE DO AND THEN COMMENT?

we are getting carried away lads, lets look at the stats. yes we have drew 2 and won 1 in our last 3 games which is great but our forward line bar Poucher is not clicking. There are too many players not scoring. I dont care what anyone says if your not scoring as a froward your not doing your job. more shooting needed at training and hey fair play to the defence on top in last 3 games well done lads

2 games played over wkd and over 30 players used altogether. enough said i think. we all know its a squad game now. moral is good and football is nt bad neither. might be some forwards are lacking confidence but its also good to see old heads like mccaul, boyle and price can still turn it on.

i agree with the comment about the match reports, it would be a great benefit to have match reports not only would it add an extra perk to the website but it would allow members who are not able to attend games to read about matchs and support their club. i was on mayobridges clubs website and they even show veido footage of their matchs, the bridge are leading the way by far in the county not only with football but with their website also. lets take a leaf out of their book and improve are website it might even improve our football since everyone will be reading how the lads are playing!!

It is very interesting to see all the comments regarding not enough advertising, promotion etc. I would like to remind people this is their club! We are all volunteers and some of these moaners should get off their high horse and start doing some work to help the club.It is sad these days to see so many players get such help, support, best management, physios, meals, nights organised and not one of them would think of helping out in other aspects of the club. How many of you helped at the blitz? How many of you even went? How many of you help with underage football? How many of you have not even paid your membership? Think about it before you moan!

There are rumours that Mitchels delayed Stephen's transfer when he laft us. The truth is that Saval apparently turned down Stephen's request to join them the first year. It was debated at their AGM before being passed. This was nothing to do with Mitchels. Mitchels didn't delay the transfer at all. Please make sure people know this and deal with these harmful rumours.

The under 14s beat An Riocht by 2-17 to 0-12 away, with a great team performance. Both games were really enjoyable to watch and hopefully our young players all enjoyed it too.

I would like to thank boyler and cooney for turning up and also the 4 reserve players but lads we need more of the first team players there. its fantastic that the reserve players turned up but they dont have the quality to get us through the play offs.   A quick response to a comment made on your message board by snowball. He is giving stick to some of out lads about frequenting the fine establishment that is the Dolce Vita! I think the lads in question are simply aware of the importance of carb loading before a big game and taking their dietary guidelines very seriously. If snowball wasn't staking out in the Dolce Vita himself, ( only because Jamesie was out of chicken balls ) or crawling out of the Windmill Bar most weekends, he might discover that there are more carbs in a pizza than in 10 pints of carlsberg!!! The earywig strikes!!

not to sure about the rebuilding comments of a new team, to take a step back and try to rebuild will be a major task in div4, especially when trying to do this with minor players who had a worse season than the seniors. if the current team or any future team is going to start up and rebuild then div 3 should not be seen as too difficult to do so. there is good enough players and management, maybe a few more supports and club members to take an instrest could help all are teams from underage right up.....

im not too sure about forgetting about the appeal i belive we owe it till the players and management staff at least to push the appeal on their behalf, this year was far from being a success, but there was many players who worked very hard all year and not just for the seniors but reserves and minors also. the work that has been put in by the management team that marty has built up over the past two years should also be taken into account, as we should so appreciation for their hard work and dediciation as well. just giving up and letting the club drop till div 4 should not be seen as an option, we as a club should only be looking forward and build from there. also seeing the numbers involved in the senior setup over the last few years, they have been up and down like a yoyo, although marty has kept a steadier ship compared till other managers there is still major room for improvement. That is why we should not be turning anyone away, we are a local junior gaa club and with the sitituation we are in we need all the help we can get. noboby should think that fighting this appeal is wrong, drumgrath have fought for theirs and won, they were the intermediate champions last year and played in the senior championship this year, we were fit to beat them in their home pitch, they to have let things slip this year so have we. lets not let ourselves slip anymore and give our full backing to the appeal.

why dont we make a list of all the players who have stopped playing, have been playing but quit during the season and make a huge effort to re group in jan/feb, anyone who wants to quit/retire go ahead and start afresh with minors and new faces! there is talent within the squad but the big issue will be how this talent will be brought forward, the coaching structure at senior level has to be right next year and there s no doubt that div 4 and jfc are there for the taking

Dobbs I think your wrong about aidy murphy being the best defender at the club, I feel its Karl "Lets keep it air tight" Mc Caughey actually I think he s best forward at the club as well, with a record of 9 games in the forward line and NO scores he has to be up there !! ha ha ha

Anyone have any pics of teams/action shots from the late 1990s to early 2000s - think during this time we won 2/3 promotions - junior chamionship - south down and all ireland 7s junior - great mixture of experience and youth in these teams - mccoy, boyle, durkin, kearney, mclogan to name a few. Thanks!

I was just wondering when we will know what the plans are for the Senior team for next season will be. After this year everyone should get a chance to start from scratch and help rebuild the pride in our senior team. Its time we all pulled together for the good of the club as we have lots of good young talent coming through and we cant afford to lose them.

Well done a great victory over banbridge lads, it was a great performance by all in particular Stand in skipper marty McCall. Brian Fearon has been a great servant to mitchels over the years but i watched Marty excel in his role as captain on sunday and it gave him extra confidence, he marshalled his defence and encouraged the young lads. I suppose should marty be given the captaincy on a permanent basis?? any thoughts

in reply to clubman. it may be hard to rebuild from div 4, nobody knows the thoughts of the players and some if not the whole lot may be calling it a day, either by retiring or quiting football. in my opinion the club has to look at the structures they have in place in order to keep hold of the talanted players we have, and yes we do have some very talanted players who have under performed in the past season, a completly new management team, someone from outside the club who has no ties with the club would help greatly. the players desire to succed also must be questioned, although a few are undoubtly committed, far too many would rather be playing soccer than competing in championship finals are playoffs play offs. if we can get these things sorted before the season starts we can go streight back up and maybe win the JFC aswel. i also believe we can then push for a top 4 finish in div 3 the following year if the right steps are taken by club and players now.

Lads Hoepfully we can climb out of this relegation trouble and secure our div 3 status for next year. I feel we can do this especially with the way conor murphy is playing the way he is. He is probably the best defender at the club (apart from aidy murphy), but as a half forward his shooting has been a bit erratic to say the least!!!! But does anything think he should get a call up by Ross!!!!!

It leads to the age old question - do good players make good managers - or do good mangers need good players - I think that at all levels of development Mitchel's mgt do well with the players they have got - If people think overwise they should start putting their names at the end of their posts !!!

Please come forward and offer to get involved. Speak to any committee member or coach if you are interested. All people interested in helping in the club are welcome.   Great result last nite lads well played, was great to see mitchels win by a large margin. It shows that we have strength in depth as there was a number of injures and we were still able to achieve a convincing win and make substitutions when needed. It was to hard to pick a man of the match as very one played well but a special mention has to go to the backs who showed a great example of man to man marking. Also crow created a pivotal role and provided himself as great target man in fullforward (aka he was dog rough and a pure torture to mark). Shane Coney lead the fight in mid field with a tireless work ethic and was well supported by Stephen Fitzpatrick, who is a great addition to have back. Not to end on a bad note but on a more constructive point I believe there is room for improvement all over and more to come from the forward line as there seemed to be wasted opportunities and possession in the second half. But this will only improve as the season goes on. Goodluck against the bosco Think the reserves are playing wed nite, but not sure when or were

I have to agree with you conor, from looking on the sidelines, although cacs didnt score when he was up front, the management have made a masterstroke in bringing him back into the half back line. He marshalls the defence well and we look much more of a unit with him there than we did before. Keep the good performances up lads.

I definately think he should get a call up, he is fast, can block a ball, can make a pass. Plus he would bring a bit of eye candy to the down team with his long blonde locks... But i am biased, since i am his girlfriend.

Kris McKracken for minor player of the year, year after year this younster has grafted away silently at training, turns up for every match and never lets the side down, along with his McKracken attitude (see what ive done there) Kris has a talismanic presence on the pitch with his pin point accuracy and thundrous strength, not to mention his lightning quick pace. This rising talent is a jewel in Harry Cooneys crown and his recognition is long overdue.

Check out the comments from St Pauls message board Latest on Relegation Farce Message Posted By: Brian Mc 11 Nov 07 Lads, Just come from committee meeting. We have been scheduled to play Drumgath in a relagation play off match on Sunday November 25th. We are submitting an appeal as to why we should have to do this as we thought that we were safe. We ourselves have plenty of questions that need answered by the County Board. They have told us that the current status of games played in the relegation playoffs is as follows. St Pauls Played 1, won 1, 2pts Mitchels Played 1, lost 1, awarded a w/o against Drumgath, 2pts. Drumgath, Played 1, pts awarded to Mitchells for their game that wasnt played, 0 pts. However, we need to prepare to play this game should the worst come to the worst, despite the fact that the County Board has made a hames of this and is digging itself a deeper hole. There will therefore be training this week at some stage once we have decided where & when etc. Keep an eye here for updates. Brian.

kenny murphy for senior player of the year.most improved could be any one but i tip one of the minors to bag it, but it could be anyone of them.reserve player of the year sean duffy and as for minor thats anyones guess as they all under performed this year in there age group.if i had to pick it would be neil muragth or karl heaney.most improve either of the above along with shannon.

newry mitchels, rumour has it amongst teams in all 4divisions that you are the only team that has a lads night out and then takes their partners on these lads nights out. Do your partners go on stag weekends also? You mitchel men really know how to have a good time.

lads do you reckon i should go back to the mitchels after me being left out of the team of the decade. Like i did win player of the year 2002 and i am the only person to win player of the year and be left out, thats hardly fair. I need some advice, the only thing i am holding on for is to get into the 2005 = 2015 team for the centenary celebrations.

I Would like to agree with ben, being a city club we are struggling against the likes of Shamrocks Bosco as well as Ballyholland to recruit players. Our task is all the more difficult as those clubs have a higher league standing than ourselves. I welcome with open arms those fringe players from the top clubs who found it difficult to make an impact in division 1+2 football with their respective teams but have put in excellent performances for us in div3+4. Some s of those fringe players who moved are still playing now. Richard troope (Shamrocks) Nigel Allen (Ballyholland) Ciaran Conlon (Shamrocks). People will say that these players were not good enough for their initial clubs and thats why they joined mitchels but i would ask members of those clubs to come and look at these players now....... their loss is our gain

who's going to win the player of the year for senior, minor and resver. id have to give shane conny senior, most improved could be won by a number of players sean duffy, bredan allen, eamon pollick and a few more. minor is hard to know dara donins has a strong shout along with conner swenny, barry macteer, shannon conney, diamen kearny but i think the money has to be on neil muragth. all the players talked about above part from muragth will be in for a shout for most improved minor, my tip conner swenny. now we come down to a big talkin point reserves as there is only one award here. this award to will have a few main runners like ross carnny, sean duffy who played near all the matchs if not all the matches.

Re our own pitch. The person who was interested should speak to Cathal, Seana, or Seamus for an update. Committee have been working hard on this, and there is some progress, though nothing definite yet. But like we did with the rooms, and the website development, committee are working hard on it. It's good that people can see results on the other issues, and hopefully there'll be good news on the pitch issue too...

I agree with the posting about club shorts, it looks very unprofessional just wearing normal o neills shorts which are the same as other clubs, we should have our own club shorts even if players have to pay for them, also there are boys wearing cork andlouth shorts and if we had club shorts we would all wear the same

I agree with neils previous comment, the seniors should get new away jerseys as the ones that are currently in use are old, faded and uncomfortable and it doesnt reflect well on the club, how can the club be taken seriously when they are playing in old makeshift jerseys.Even if the players are to help fund them.

Perhaps St Johns fellas will not count their chickens before they've hatched in future. Bredagh won tonight deservedly in a well-fought game and will play St Johns in th next round. Perhaps St Johns wish the result had been reversed, as they have been beaten easily all three times by Bredagh this season. Well done to Mitchels this year on their excellent division 3 form and I wish them all the best next year!

as regards the transfer of one of the greatest Mictchels Players ever to pull on the red shirt to saval I think we need to consider some things. We r a City club and currently there are some serious problems that need to be addressed within the Cities and large towns in Down and all over. Its only natural that a player may feel they have to move on and this could be down to a number of reasons, moving jobs, house or country or in this players case playing a higher standard of football to further his county career which incidently a lot of players have done not just in this county but all over. Rather than moan about someone who has left lets concentrate on what we have and what is coming through and what we can do for our players at all ages. It starts with the shop window which is the senior team so lets see who the talkers are and who the walkers are when it comes to pre season training because the players who moan about players leaving the club are the same players who dont regularly go to training and would rather go to division 4 where its "Handy" than show ambition like Dundrum have done this year with a very limited bunch of players and strive for division 2. We v did it before why not again after the tireless work of the committe to give us that chance next year!! So well done to Cathal and everyone else who travelled to Croke Park to fight for the chance of not going to the duldrums of Down football... Surely we owe these people a good season next year??

what are you on about??? theres no point being bitter, you just have to accept these things if someone wants to move on then let them, if they believe it can better them as a player and that we cannot do no more as a club then they are a lost cause to the club. we did try and keep this player but it did not happen. things like this and the current appeal should not dampen are spirts but help drive us on for success. this is not the first time this has happen, DJ kane is another example. we as a club have to work together and build a team and develop structures were this does not happen with any of our teams at all levels.

The Mitchels kit is the best around and most well known in the town ! I never see anyone wearing the Bosco or Shamrocks top around but your always likely to see a mitchels top and the shorts are good for general training also. Typical O Neils stuff - bog standard to look at but always good quality. PS for running training ditch the expensive dry-fit stuff and use o neills far better.

I heard Saval have accepted a mitchels player . You know they are no better than him . So much for play for your club and the club is the most important thing. It just goes to show that even Saval want to win more than they care about their club! Have they not got enough players. How will Saval feel and the player concerned when he puts on a Down jersey ? Can he really hand on heart go and play with him being named a saval player ? I know a lot of the boys are wishing him well but at the end of the day he .... on us. We should now approach players from other clubs , no on second thoughts lets not stoop to the level of Saval and this player.
